With Change Comes Good Things

Wow, I can't believe we are already into May! Time seems to be moving quickly these days, but at the same time very slowly. Do you ever feel that way too? There have been many changes and revelations here at Brooklyn Designs over the past few months and I have been trying to welcome these changes with open arms. I have been reflecting on my years as a jewelry designer; seeing where I have started and where I am now. I began this journey of Brooklyn Designs in September, 2003 with a simple concept of wanting to make jewelry for women. Within a few months I had my designs in my first retail location in Vancouver, B.C. and it was a great experience. With the confidence that I received from that opportunity I then began to have my jewelry sold in several retail locations throughout Vancouver and the Metro Vancouver area for many years to this day.

A lot has happened since my journey began, one of the most import was becoming a mom. With the birth of my son in 2006 I found myself consumed with love and inner strength. There is something so incredibly empowering knowing that my body grew a person and with that power came new artistic growth and inspiration. Brooklyn Designs quickly evolved into what it is today; delicate timeless pieces that compliment the style and sophistication of many women. With each new season comes more inspiration for the collections that I create and so on and so forth.

With September, 2013 quickly approaching I am coming to realize that this simple concept of Brooklyn Designs will have begun 10 years ago! I really can't believe it. I still remember sitting at my mom's kitchen table brainstorming names for my jewelry line and thinking about all of the wonderful possibilities that could become of this journey. I have had an incredible amount of support from my husband, my mom and my husband's family. It is with this amazing amount of support that has allowed me to keep creating Brooklyn Designs.

With knowing that I will have been creating Brooklyn Designs for 10 years this September my thirst and hunger for knowledge and change has grown stronger and stronger over this past month. I am very excited to be learning Silversmithing with a very talented designer named Dominique Brechault and a wonderful class of creative women. I look forward to seeing where this knowledge and new skill set will take me creatively. I can't wait to start creating and evolving as a designer and most importantly I can't wait to share all of this with you!

People often say that change is good. They're right. We should always remember to embrace it and accept it with open arms. You never know where it may take you and where you can allow yourself to go.

Scandal

When we first started watching ABC's hit show Scandal last Spring we were instantly hooked! This show is very fast paced and packed full of drama! The lead role is played by Kerry Washington and not only is she unbelievably gorgeous but she is a fabulous actress and makes Olivia Pope come to life on the screen. As if we couldn't love this show anymore than we already do, our jewels have appeared on some of the characters this season! Sometimes they are hard to spot though since it's so fast paced and really, let's be honest, it's very hard to focus on their jewelry since the plot is so amazing!

The Vampire Diaries

We gotta say, The Vampire Diaries is definitely a guilty pleasure! Who doesn't love sexy men, romance, drama and Vampires? A few months ago we had the opportunity to send a piece of jewelry to the costume designer for The Vampire Diaries through a group we are a part of called The Artisan Group. We chose our Long Gold-filled Spike Necklace made with a handmade Swarovski Crystal Chain, Amethyst charms and long Gold-overlay spike. We were thrilled to receive an email from the costume designer that they wanted to use our necklace on the show! Fast forward to last week episode 13 and there was our Caroline Necklace being worn by Candice Accola! This was a big thrill for designer Brooke Mosher as she has watched The Vampire Diaries since the beginning and is a huge fan of the show. Our necklace was worn throughout the entire episode and was also worn again the following week at the beginning of episode 14!

Having our necklace worn on The Vampire Diaries is a big highlight for us and extremely exciting as well. We can't wait to find out what will happen next week on the show and are looking forward to season 5 as it was just renewed by the CW. Did you also hear that there will be a spin off called The Originals? It will be about the original 5 family with Klaus and his remaining sibblings, can't wait for all the vampy drama to begin!

Spring Designs

Our Spring 2013 Collection has been added to our website and we couldn't be more thrilled with how everything has turned out! We recently did a photo shoot with Laura from Magnolia Photographic to show our valuable customers and retailers just how gorgeous and versatile our new designs are. We have created a new collection full of delicately styled pieces that are fabulous for layering, featuring long sparkling charm necklaces, delicate chain bracelets and feminine gemstone earrings.

New Changes for 2013

The Fall/Winter season was incredibly busy and we had such a fantastic year for 2012! We are so excited to be launching our new Spring 2013 Collection and can't wait to share everything with all of you!

Over the next week we will be uploading and refreshing our website with all of our new designs. One of the changes we are most excited about is that we have named all of our jewels this season. Now you can shop our collection by name, for example our Long Tree of Life Necklace that was featured in the Vancouver Sun December 8, 2012 is now called the Vitalia Necklace. This change has been a long time coming and we're thrilled to have finally implemented this into our new collection.

We will also be dedicating time to updating our blog more frequently. Our Facebook page is a fabulous way to stay up to date and keep in touch with us and all of the new and exciting things that are happening at Brooklyn Designs. Our jewels will be seen on some new T.V. shows in the next little while also and we look forward to sharing all of the details with you as soon as we can!
